Error-protected superconducting QPUs

About

Peak Quantum is a Munich-area deep-tech startup developing superconducting quantum processors (QPUs) in which error protection is built into the qubit architecture at the hardware level. The company says this reduces the redundancy and overhead of active error correction, so fewer physical qubits are needed to encode logical ones, which it argues makes scaling more efficient.

The company was founded in 2024 as a spin-off from the research group of Prof. Stefan Filipp at the Walther-Meißner-Institute (WMI) of the Technical University of Munich. It designs and fabricates its chips in-house in Garching and is part of Munich Quantum Valley, supported by UnternehmerTUM. Its team spans chip design, fabrication and system integration.

Peak Quantum closed a €2.2M pre-seed round in April 2026 led by Cloudberry Ventures, with United Founders, QAI Ventures, Golden Egg Check and business angels participating. Including public support such as EU Chips Act funding, total funding is reported as more than €5M. The company was selected to operate the SUPREME pilot line, the EU Chips Act pilot line for superconducting quantum circuits, which kicked off in May 2026. It has also been a finalist and placed third in the Bayerischer Gründerpreis 2026 and is part of the ATHENA-X consortium selected in the BMFTR Quantum Computing Competition.
