Metamaterial noise control, up to 30% lighter

About

Phononic Vibes is a noise and vibration control company based in Milan, Italy, that designs and manufactures acoustic products using metamaterials. Its products rely on the shape and topology of the unit cell rather than on additional material, making them up to 30% lighter at equivalent acoustic performance, or better performing at the same weight. The company holds 18 patent families and operates a proprietary design engine built on eight technology building blocks.

The company was founded in 2018 as a spin-off of Politecnico di Milano, building on metamaterials research at the university and at MIT. Its products include MetaWindow, a transparent sound-absorbing barrier certified for German rail and highway and developed with Deutsche Bahn, and MetaDesign firewall insulation developed with Mercedes-Benz and Adler Pelzer, which is used in series production. It also offers MOBI mobile barriers for construction sites, along with silencers, enclosures and ventilated panels for industry, energy and data centres. Customers and partners include Deutsche Bahn, Mercedes-Benz, Webuild, Equans and Amplia Infrastructures.

In March 2025 the company acquired the Matis Insonorizzazioni brand, a noise control manufacturer founded in 1979, and it now operates a group with production sites in Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna. The company reached break-even in 2025 on revenue of about €7 million. In October 2026 it raised €25 million led by Jolt Capital, with Eureka! Venture, CDP Venture Capital and Simest, to scale its design engine internationally, expand into new applications and pursue acquisitions. The company has about 100 people.
