About
Planetfall Ltd is a London-based defence-tech startup building the operational infrastructure layer for "near space" — the 10–30 km altitude band above conventional airpower and below orbital space. The company's platform uses high-altitude balloons to lift payloads beyond weather systems and most air-defence coverage, then releases guided gliders or parafoil delivery systems to strike targets or deliver payloads with precision, at a fraction of the cost of traditional long-range strike munitions.
The company's lead product, Valkyrie, is an unpowered glide drone capable of carrying up to 10 kg of payload over hundreds to thousands of kilometres, launched entirely without a runway, engine, or aircraft. A complementary system, Hermes, uses the same balloon and hardware stack for precision payload-to-point delivery — enabling rapid resupply, sensor placement, or ISR sensor drops. Planetfall also offers persistent loitering balloon platforms for ISR, synthetic aperture radar, and electronic warfare roles, envisioning a self-sustaining, always-on system of systems operating across the near-space battlespace.
Founded in March 2023 by aerospace engineer Victor Süsskind and co-founder Jóhannes Reginn K, Planetfall secured an early R&D contract with the UK Ministry of Defence and has showcased the Hermes system at the Bundeswehr Cyber Innovation Hub's Startup Demo Day. The company is targeting NATO-aligned defence forces as its primary customers and has been selected for the Deep Tech Momentum 2026 Watchlist, positioning it among Europe's leading early-stage deep-tech startups in the defence and space domains.
