About

PLD Space (Payload Aerospace S.L.) is a Spanish aerospace company founded in 2011 in Elche, Spain, and is the first private European company to successfully launch a rocket. The company designs, manufactures, tests, and operates reusable launch vehicles through its vertically integrated model — covering engines, structures, avionics, guidance and control, and launch infrastructure entirely in-house.

Its MIURA launcher family includes the MIURA 1 suborbital rocket, which completed a historic maiden flight on 7 October 2023, and the MIURA 5, a two-stage partially reusable orbital rocket capable of delivering up to ~1,000 kg to low Earth orbit. Powered by five TEPREL-C kerosene/LOX engines — the first liquid rocket engine qualified for spaceflight in Spain — MIURA 5 is being readied for its inaugural orbital flight from the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana. PLD Space is also developing the MIURA Next medium/heavy launch vehicle family and the LINCE crewed capsule for long-term human spaceflight ambitions.

The company serves commercial satellite operators, research institutions, and government space programmes, targeting dedicated and rideshare access to any orbit. It operates over 188,000 m² of facilities across Elche (HQ & manufacturing), Teruel (Europe's largest private rocket test centre), Kourou (launch complex under construction), and Duqm, Oman (second launch base). PLD Space aims to conduct more than 30 launches annually by 2030 and holds an ESA European Launcher Challenge contract worth €158.9 million, with Mitsubishi Electric as both a strategic investor and anchor launch customer in Asia.
