About

Pollen Robotics is a French robotics company based in Bordeaux, founded in 2016 by former Inria researchers Matthieu Lapeyre and Pierre Rouanet. It develops expressive, open-source robots for AI builders, researchers and makers, with software and hardware released under open licenses such as Apache 2.0. Its first robot, Reachy, was launched at CES 2020. Reachy 2, a larger humanoid platform aimed at research labs, was unveiled at CES 2025 and launched in 2024. The company also sells Reachy Mini, a compact desktop companion robot, and Microduck, a 25 cm biped with 15 motors trained with reinforcement learning, which opened pre-orders at $399 in August 2026.

Pollen won second place in the ANA Avatar XPRIZE in 2022, which carried a $2 million prize. In April 2023 it closed a seed round of about EUR 2.4 million, combining Bpifrance funding, bank loans from BNP Paribas and Société Générale, and an equity investment from a business angel. Over 10,000 of its robots have shipped worldwide.

In April 2025 Hugging Face acquired Pollen Robotics, with the co-founders and roughly 20 staff joining Hugging Face. Pollen now operates as Hugging Face's French robotics subsidiary, selling Reachy 2 and Reachy Mini and developing Microduck alongside Hugging Face's LeRobot open-source robotics effort. Reachy 2 is used by research labs including those at Cornell University and Carnegie Mellon University.
