About

Quantum Motion is a London-based quantum computing company, spun out of University College London and the University of Oxford in 2017, that builds fault-tolerant quantum computers using industry-standard silicon CMOS transistors. Its silicon spin-qubit architecture traps single electrons in quantum dots fabricated on standard 300 mm wafers—the same manufacturing process used for every smartphone chip—enabling qubit arrays that are far cheaper, smaller, and more energy-efficient than competing superconducting or ion-trap approaches. The company claims its systems deliver a 100-fold reduction in cost and space requirements and a 1,000-fold reduction in energy consumption versus alternatives, and are designed to fit inside standard data-centre racks.

Quantum Motion's technology stack spans high-density silicon qubits, fault-tolerant quantum processor architectures, cryogenic CMOS control electronics, and machine-learning-based automated qubit tuning. In September 2025 the company delivered the industry's first full-stack silicon CMOS quantum computer—installed at the UK National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) in Harwell—and in November 2025 was selected by DARPA to advance to Stage B of its Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, one of only 11 companies to do so. A formal manufacturing partnership with GlobalFoundries ties the company's roadmap directly into commercial semiconductor supply chains.

The company is led by CEO Dr. James Palles-Dimmock, CTO and co-founder Prof. John Morton (UCL), and CSO and co-founder Prof. Simon Benjamin (Oxford). Headcount has grown to over 100 staff across offices and labs in London, Oxford, Sydney (Australia), and San Sebastián (Spain). Customers and partners include the UK NQCC, Goldman Sachs (quantum finance applications research), and GlobalFoundries. Quantum Motion raised a $160 million Series C in May 2026—the largest VC round for a UK quantum company—bringing total disclosed funding to over $220 million.
