About
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based satellite telecommunications operator that is building a low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation based on the 5G standard. Its satellites are designed to let unmodified commercial NB-IoT devices and smartphones connect directly from space, using 3GPP Release 17 non-terrestrial network (NTN) technology and supporting roaming between terrestrial and satellite networks for telecom operators.
The company was founded in 2018. It launched its first satellite in 2021 to test its technology and joined 3GPP working groups. A second satellite, The Groundbreaker, followed in 2023, and the Revolution mission launched four satellites in August 2024, which were used to provide service to customers. Sateliot has launched six satellites in total and planned five more launches in 2026 on a SpaceX Transporter mission, with a next-generation Tritó satellite developed at its 5G satellite development center in Barcelona. The company plans a constellation of more than 100 satellites with full global coverage expected around 2027 to 2028.
Sateliot targets sectors including agriculture, livestock, water and energy management, logistics, environmental and biodiversity monitoring, critical infrastructure, border surveillance, crisis response, defense and tactical communications. Its use cases include a partnership with LemSystem for irrigation sensors in Chile, a collaboration with t42 for container tracking at sea, and free connectivity for conservation NGOs in Brazil and southern Africa. It has also signed agreements with operators such as Telenor IoT, Telefónica, Deutsche Telekom, Turkcell, Eseye and Arqia.
The company reports contracts valued at about €270 million with more than 400 clients in around 50 countries. It has received public and institutional backing, including support from the European Investment Bank, the European Space Agency and Spain's SETT, and it was selected by ESA to contribute to the Low-LEO layer of the IRIS² programme.
