About

SatLeo Labs is an Ahmedabad-based spacetech startup building a multi-spectral satellite constellation that combines thermal (infrared) and visible imaging from low Earth orbit. Its first payload, TAPAS-1, is a commercial thermal imager with onboard edge computing that processes data in orbit to reduce latency. The company was founded in 2023 by Shravan Bhati, Ranendu Ghosh (a former ISRO scientist) and Urmil Bakhai.

The company's AI-powered platform turns thermal and visible satellite data into temperature intelligence for governments and enterprises. Stated applications include defence, agriculture, water stress, disaster response, urban heat management and climate monitoring. SatLeo has said its thermal data can be used for missile launch detection in conflict zones, as reported by Janes.

SatLeo has run pilot projects with cities including Ahmedabad and Tumakuru on urban heat island and air-pollution monitoring, which it says reach more than 400,000 citizens. It says its letters of intent grew from about $15M to over $42M within a year and that its team grew from 8 to around 30. TAPAS-1 was reported to have launched on SpaceX Falcon 9 Transporter-18 on 1 October 2026 via Dhruva Space's LEAP-2 platform. The company has said it plans a Series A, a satellite manufacturing facility near Ahmedabad and a larger constellation through future TAPAS-2 and PYRO missions.
