SEATOM Technologies is a Finland-headquartered startup building civilian and dual-use nuclear propulsion systems for the maritime industry. Founded in 2024 by veterans of nuclear engineering, icebreaker shipbuilding, and maritime regulation, the company is developing the SEATOM-100, a 100 MWe small modular reactor (SMR) designed to operate safely in extreme marine conditions — including capsizing and flooding scenarios. Its MERI-NPS™ (Modular Engine Room Integrated Nuclear Propulsion System) is engineered to fit within the existing engine room footprint of diesel- or gas-turbine-powered vessels, enabling zero-emission propulsion and up to double the speed of conventional ships.
SEATOM's commercial model centres on leasing and Power-as-a-Service, positioning its Floating Nuclear Power Plants (FNPPs) and power barges as off-grid clean energy solutions with no capital expenditure for the customer. The company claims a 99% emission reduction, a 3–6 year refuelling cycle, and a 20% margin improvement for vessel operators from day one. Reactors are designed to be manufactured in Finland, adjacent to the world's largest cruise ship and icebreaker yards, leveraging Finland's world-class maritime and nuclear ecosystems.
SEATOM was selected for the NATO DIANA (Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic) 2026 Challenge Programme Cohort under the
