Physical AI for deformable material handling

Fields

About

sewts GmbH is a Munich-based deep-tech robotics startup founded in 2019 by graduates of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The company develops Physical AI — combining computer vision, AI, and advanced robotics — that enables robots to handle easily deformable materials such as textiles, towels, and cables with human-like precision. This capability addresses one of industrial automation's most persistent unsolved challenges.

Its flagship product, sewts.VELUM, is a robotic cell deployed in industrial laundries across Europe. The system automatically picks crumpled, laundered towels and feeds them into folding machines at human-comparable speed (up to 600 towels per hour), helping laundries overcome severe labor shortages. The company is also developing sewts.JUPITER, a generative-AI-powered simulation and software platform that creates computer vision models and grasping strategies for a broad range of deformable materials, enabling automation engineers to tackle previously unautomatable tasks.

sewts's technology uses high-precision physics simulations and synthetic data to train machine learning algorithms, avoiding the costly real-world data collection normally required. With systems deployed in production across Europe and expansion underway into the US, the company targets industrial laundries, e-commerce returns processing, fashion manufacturing, and textile recycling. It has reported 500% year-over-year revenue growth for two consecutive years, and its total disclosed funding exceeds €10M.
