About
Skyfly Technologies Ltd is a British developer of electric and hybrid-electric vertically capable aircraft, founded in 2019 and based near Banbury in Oxfordshire, with a US operations base at the SunTrax facility in Auburndale, Florida. Its flagship product is the Axe, a two-seat aircraft that takes off and lands vertically without a runway and cruises on fixed wings. The Axe is powered by eight electric motors, has a range of more than 100 miles and a payload of around 200 kg. It is aimed at private pilots, training operators and yacht owners, with a projected running cost of about £70 per flying hour.
Skyfly is also developing Longbow, an uncrewed, longer-range variant of the Axe aimed at defence and government customers, along with a hybrid propulsion system that extends range. In July 2026 the company opened its FAA light-sport-compliant electric propulsion technology to other aircraft manufacturers. It also offers VRM-2, a VR motion-cueing flight simulator developed with the aerospace systems specialist Myriad. In November 2024 Skyfly was selected for the UK Ministry of Defence Heavy Lift UAS Supplier Framework.
Development milestones include crewed hover flights from late 2024, first piloted fixed-wing flights in March 2025, Europe's first airfield-to-airfield eVTOL flight between Turweston and Bicester in June 2025, and first crewed flights in the United States in November 2025. The Axe holds experimental permits in the UK and the United States, and its prototype has flown more than 100 times. The order book includes 61 private customers, with first deliveries planned for 2027. In October 2026 Skyfly closed a $10 million seed round led by HICO Investment Group with participation from Archangel, to complete FAA certification under the MOSAIC rules, expand production in the UK and US, and accelerate hybrid propulsion.
