About

Skyrora Limited is a Scottish rocket company founded in June 2017 by Volodymyr Levykin, who serves as founder and CEO. It is headquartered in Glasgow, with a design and manufacturing facility in Cumbernauld and engine testing sites in Scotland. The company develops launch vehicles and engines for the small satellite market, with a stated aim of reducing the cost of space launches and providing responsive access to orbit. Its product lineup includes the three-stage Skyrora XL orbital launch vehicle intended for Sun-Synchronous Orbit, the Skylark L suborbital rocket, the Skylark Micro and Skylark Nano test rockets, the Space Tug for in-orbit services, a Third Stage, a 3.5 kN LEO engine and the 70 kN Skyforce-2 engine.

Skyrora produces Ecosene, a lower-emissions fuel made from unrecyclable plastic waste, and has partnered with Spirit AeroSystems on additive manufacturing of rocket components and with Viasat and CGI on the InRange telemetry relay system, which was ground-tested in 2024. In August 2025 the company was granted a launch operator licence by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, becoming the first British manufacturer licensed to launch from UK soil; the licence covers its Skylark L rocket, to be flown from the SaxaVord spaceport in Shetland. Skyrora also leads an ESA-funded project developing the Tanbium alloy for 3D-printed rocket engine parts. In 2026 it completed a 45-second hot-fire test of a scaled-down XL engine and a hot-fire test of a 3.5 kN LEO engine featuring a titanium-coated component developed under an EU-funded programme. Its orbital launch target has been moved to 2030.

Funding includes ESA co-funding of about €3M in 2021, further ESA grants, and a strategic investment by Ukrainian entrepreneur Max Polyakov in late 2025. Total funding raised has been reported at over €38M. In February 2026 Skyrora said it was exploring the purchase of select assets of competitor Orbex, including the Sutherland Spaceport, after Orbex appointed administrators. The company was ranked in the Sunday Times 100 Tech 2026 and shortlisted for the British Business Awards in 2026.
