About

Starship Technologies is the world's #1 autonomous sidewalk delivery company, founded in 2014 by Skype co-founders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis. Headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia — with R&D in Helsinki and commercial operations across eight countries — the company builds and operates small, self-driving delivery robots that navigate city streets and campuses at Level 4 autonomy to deliver groceries, hot food and industrial supplies.

Starship's robots use a combination of radars, cameras, sensors and machine learning to operate 99% autonomously, crossing roads, avoiding pedestrians and completing deliveries in an average of 15 minutes. With a fleet of over 3,000 robots operating across 300+ locations in the UK, US, Germany, Sweden, Czechia, Finland, Estonia and Switzerland, Starship has completed more than 10 million deliveries — more than all competitors combined — and driven over 23 million kilometres.

The company partners with major grocery retailers (S-Group, Co-op), food delivery platforms (Uber Eats, Just Eat, foodora, Bolt), and industrial clients including Merck KGaA. Its campus deployments cover 50+ US universities. In June 2026, Starship announced a strategic pivot to double down on grocery delivery in EU and US urban markets, redeploying campus robots to support retail grocery growth. Having raised over $280 million in total funding — including a $50M Series C in October 2025 — the company is targeting 12,000 robots by 2027.
