Renewable natural gas from green hydrogen

Fields

About

TURN2X is a Munich-based climate tech company that produces e-methane (renewable natural gas) from renewable electricity, water and biogenic CO2. Its modular plants are co-located with renewable power sources and use a patented methanation reactor, developed over more than a decade of research at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). The output is chemically identical to fossil natural gas, so it can be transported through existing pipelines and used in existing industrial burners.

The company's first commercial plant in Miajadas, Spain was inaugurated in 2024 and has produced certified gas since 2025, selling 100% of its output under long-term offtake contracts. TURN2X has signed a power purchase agreement with Axpo Iberia, is a preferred technology partner of Siemens for its production, and has agreed offtake with Titan Clean Fuels for maritime e-methane from 2028. A Spanish project was selected in the European Hydrogen Bank's third auction in 2026.

TURN2X targets energy-intensive industries, utilities and shipping that need a gas they can use without new infrastructure. Its stated goal is to displace 10% of Germany's fossil natural gas demand by 2031. In September 2026 it closed a €20M Series A led by Antwerpen Ventures to fund more plants in Spain and other markets and to reduce production costs.
