About
volytica diagnostics GmbH is a battery analytics company based in Dresden, Germany. Its cloud-based software analyses field data transmitted by battery systems to diagnose state of health, degradation, anomalies and safety risks, and to predict remaining useful life. The platform is manufacturer-independent and uses AI- and electrochemistry-based, cell-type-independent algorithms that do not require lab testing or time-consuming initial training. Its product line includes the vdx sentry monitoring feature, a Contract Tracker for warranty compliance, an available energy metric called AvEn, and a FAT/SAT commissioning service for battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The company was spun out of the Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (IVI) in 2019 and grew from research on monitoring e-buses that began in 2012. Its customers and partners include Enel X, Enel Green Power, Bridgestone and Webfleet, MAHLE Aftermarket, FRAMO, enspired, Cling Systems and Sinovoltaics. Its use cases span e-bus and e-truck fleets, electric cars, utility-scale and industrial battery energy storage, and the valuation of used batteries for insurers, lessors and banks. Active monitoring and completed projects are reported in countries including Germany, the United States, Mexico, Chile, China and Italy.
volytica raised a €5.5M round in September 2023, led by SHIFT Invest and EnBW New Ventures, following earlier seed funding in 2021 from Atlantic Labs and EIT InnoEnergy. Its work has been recognised with the Hubject Startup Award in 2024, the Automobilwoche start-up award in 2024, and a shortlisting for The smarter E AWARD 2026 in the energy storage category.
