About

Wayve is a London-based AI technology company pioneering end-to-end embodied AI for autonomous driving. Founded in 2017 by Cambridge machine learning researchers Alex Kendall and Amar Shah, Wayve's core product is the Wayve AI Driver — a foundation model that learns directly from sensor data rather than relying on hand-coded rules or high-definition maps. This hardware-agnostic, mapless approach allows the software to be licensed to any automaker or fleet operator and deployed across diverse vehicle platforms and geographies.

Wayve also develops GAIA, a generative world model used to simulate and train driving behaviour at scale. The company's AV2.0 architecture spans the full spectrum from L2+ supervised autonomy to L4 fully driverless operation. Key partnerships include Nissan (for integration into next-generation ProPILOT consumer vehicles from 2027), Stellantis (for the STLA AutoDrive platform and robotaxi deployment), and Mercedes-Benz (production agreement announced September 2026 to integrate the AI Driver into select future vehicle lines).

Wayve launched its first commercial robotaxi service in London in partnership with Uber in September 2026 — the first autonomous ride-hailing service in the UK — and is targeting expansion to over 10 global markets, including a Tokyo pilot with Uber and Nissan planned for late 2026. The company employs over 1,000 people across offices in London, Silicon Valley, Stuttgart, Herzliya, Vancouver, and Tokyo, and has raised $2.8 billion in total funding at an $8.6 billion post-money valuation from investors including SoftBank, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Uber, Eclipse Ventures, and Balderton Capital.
