About
Welinq is a Paris-based quantum networking company founded in January 2022 by Tom Darras, Julien Laurat, Eleni Diamanti and Jean Lautier-Gaud. The founders had previously worked together in academic research, and the company's technology stems from two French public research laboratories, the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel and the Laboratoire d'Informatique de Sorbonne Universite. It is hosted on the Sorbonne University campus and was supported by Deeptech Founders, CNRS Innovation RISE, Agoranov and the Creative Destruction Lab during its early development.
Welinq develops quantum links and interconnects that allow separate quantum processing units to be entangled and operated together, enabling modular quantum computing and scale-out clusters. Its products include QDrive, a rack-mounted quantum memory based on laser-cooled neutral atoms with storage-and-retrieval efficiency of around 90 percent, a Quantum Link hardware offering built on quantum photonics and light-qubit interfaces, and araQne, a distributed quantum compiler and software for partitioning algorithms and distributed error correction. The company also offers a commercial Entangled Photon Pair Source, launched in February 2026. Its stated customers include quantum computing providers, data centers, HPC centers and large-scale quantum networks, and it also positions its technology for quantum-safe networking between data centers.
Welinq raised a EUR 5 million pre-seed round in January 2023 led by Quantonation, with participation from Runa Capital, the Paris Region, the French National Quantum Initiative, Bpifrance and the European Commission. It received a grant from the European Innovation Council in 2024. In January 2026 it completed its first commercial sale of QDrive to the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences for Slovakia's national quantum communication infrastructure, and in February 2026 it sold its first Entangled Photon Pair Source to a European institution.
Welinq has partnerships with Pasqal on networked neutral-atom quantum computing, including the InterQo project backed by the Paris Region, with Quandela on photonic quantum interconnects, with QphoX on optical interconnects for superconducting processors, and with OVHcloud on quantum data centers. It joined the UK Integrated Quantum Networks Hub in July 2025 and established a Scientific Advisory Board in 2024 that includes Nobel laureate Alain Aspect.
